Alvestad Marin – Water treatment technology for land-based aquaculture

Alvestad Marin develops and delivers water treatment technology for land-based aquaculture, with its main focus on the hatchery and fry production stages.

The hatchery portfolio comprises CompHatch, KubeHatch and ReuseHatch — systems that reduce water consumption and, in the recirculating versions, reuse a large share of the water in the hatchery. Alongside these, the GasBuster CO₂ aerator removes carbon dioxide from fish tanks and improves tank hydraulics.

The company sells both to system integrators and directly to producers, and its systems are in operation across the major salmon-producing regions.

Impact

Alvestad Marin's technology addresses two points where land-based production is most vulnerable. In the hatchery phase, the systems are designed to improve survival at the stage where mortality is highest. In grow-out, effective CO₂ removal keeps water quality stable, which supports fish welfare and growth. The hatchery systems also reduce water consumption and recirculate water within the hatchery, lowering the resource footprint of land-based production.

Why Alvestad Marin?
  • Land-based aquaculture is expanding, and the facilities are equipment- and technology-intensive — growth in land-based farming translates directly into demand for suppliers.

  • Established positions in two distinct product areas, hatchery systems and CO₂ aeration, with systems in operation across the major salmon-producing regions.

  • Proven international reach, with a subsidiary in Chile since 2007 and deliveries to projects beyond salmon and beyond the Nordics.

  • Technology aimed at the points where biological risk is highest in land-based production: survival in the hatchery phase and water quality in grow-out.
